About
The British Schools of Thai Bodywork and Thai Yoga was established in 1997 by Niclaire Skye (Mann) BSS, ISOM, ITTA, ITM, CERT. ED and Niclaire is also a Reiki/Seichem/Tibetan Master and facilitates Stress Therapy Workshops including meditation.
Niclaire has worked and studied in the field of bodywork since the early 70’s. She has taught and practiced in Beirut, Geneva, London, Madrid, Montreal, New York, Paris and Thailand. She started learning Thai Massage in 1989. In 1997 she founded the B.S.T.T.B and Thai Yoga. In 2002 her book on ‘Traditional Thai Bodywork’ was published by Hamlyns (isbn 0-600-60395-4). This book has now been re-released as of July 1st 2005 through GAIA, titled ‘Thai Massage’ (isbn 1-85675-241-0).The School is situated in the heart of Lyme Regis. The hall has windows giving a 180 degree view of the sea and beach, where students often take their lunch. Class starts at 9.30 with the day finishing at 5.30 latest. Study is ’intensive’ with layers of information, followed by quality sharing and most important quality time to relax before the next days start. Being residential helps you to get to know your group. Life long friendships grow from your time spent with your course group in Lyme Regis, with the added benefit that you also manage to have time to rediscover yourself! It is important that students understand thoroughly their training. We pride ourselves in graduating quality students, who are trained to question every aspect their art.
“My background was as a professional dancer and also in the martial arts. This has provided me with a deep understanding the body, both physical and subtle bodies. Having suffered a serious injury to my neck, then later to my lower back I was spiraled into a need for a deeper understanding of the body and injuries.
Now as a practitioner and tutor of Thai Massage, the understanding of SAFETY in application is a priority in my teaching. Both to the practitioner and the receiver this awareness must be incorporated in every breath of movement, safety and sensitivity must become second nature to my students. There are so many practitioners out there who are amazingly unaware of the importance in their ’stances’, the importance of smooth transition moves, ‘angle of delivery’, left-side right-side imbalance.
