What is Thai Yoga?
A ‘unique’ flowing style of Yoga
Not to be confused with Thai yoga massage, Thai Yogacame about through Niclaire Skye (Mann) needing a style of yoga, after suffering a serious back and neck injuries, which focused on DEEP yet GENTLE stretch with little holding against gravity. There was also a need to train new Thai Bodywork practitioners, so that they could attain a specialized flexibility and fitness required to deliver, support and empathize with their art, so allowing their movements to be fluid, with a yin gracefulness that clients automatically appreciated. A sequence consisting of 120 moves came about, now known as Thai Yoga or Thai Yin Yoga.
Thai Yoga is a continuous flow of movement from one position to the next working ‘with’ gravity, using the breath to help facilitate timing so allowing time for the body to sink and relax into maximum stretch with no holding, working mainly on the floor. A harmony of breath and meditative movement.
Both teacher and student describe it ‘like no other style’ in the way it releases and opens especially the hip flexors, pelvic area, lower back and Achilles tendon.
Western style of sitting on chairs plus modern life patterns, has created a multitude of imbalances and misalignment and shallow breathing. The ‘not enough time’ stress factor has for many virtually disengaged the para sympathetic state which enables the body to become naturally relaxed. Thai Yoga requires using heightened listening skills, relearning not to hold, patience to relax and courage to go deep. Gentleness with no competition.
